Watercress, Part of the Herb Range

A little known fact is that Watercress ranks as the most nutrient-rich vegetable available, Other vegetables like chard, chicory and lettuce rank well.

As a native to Europe, watercress is now grown on every continent. Taken by settlers as they settled new lands as it was such a valuable source of vitamins and had such powerful healing properties.

Creeping, hollow, fleshy, square stems to 30-50cm with many side stems of lush-green, egg shaped leaves.

Tiny, white flowers with four-petalled corollas resembling a Greek cross, which is a characteristic of plants in the Brassicaceae family (syn. Cruciferae family, the name coming from Latin meaning to bear a cross, because of the cross-like resemblance of the flower).
